چکیده

Background Quantitative myocardial T1 mapping provides in-vivo tissue characterization for assessment of cardiomyopathies. Pre and post-contrast T1 maps can be used to calculate the extracellular volume fraction (ECV) to detect diffuse myocardial fibrosis. Several imaging approaches have recently been proposed for measuring T1 values [1-4], but no head-to-head comparison has been reported to cross-examine their accuracy and reproducibility. In this study, we compared both T1 maps and ECV measurements from the following techniques: Modified Look-Locker Inversion Recovery (MOLLI) [1], Shortened MOLLI (ShMOLLI) [2], Saturation recovery single-shot acquisition (SASHA) [3], and SAturation Pulse Prepared Heart rate independent Inversion-REcovery sequence (SAPPHIRE) [4].

Comparison of different cardiovascular magnetic resonance sequences for native myocardial T1 mapping at 3T

BACKGROUND T1 mapping based on cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is a novel approach using the magnetic relaxation T1 time as a quantitative marker for myocardial tissue composition. Various T1 mapping sequences are being used, with different strengths and weaknesses. Data comparing different sequences head to head however are sparse. METHODS We compared three T1 mapping sequences, ShMO...

T1 values in discrimination between health and disease using different T1 sequences: comparison between 3'3'5-MOLLI, 3'5-MOLLI, shMOLLI and SASHA

Background Myocardial T1 mapping is emerging as a promising means to non-invasively discriminate between normal and diseased myocardium. Original modified Look-Locker sequence (3’3’5-MOLLI) can induce a long breath-hold and is prone to cardiac and respiratory motion. Several shorter sequences (3’5MOLLI, shMOLLI and SASHA) have been proposed for acquisition of T1 values. We examined native and p...

Myocardial T1-mapping at 3T using saturation-recovery: reference values, precision and comparison with MOLLI

BACKGROUND Myocardial T1-mapping recently emerged as a promising quantitative method for non-invasive tissue characterization in numerous cardiomyopathies. Commonly performed with an inversion-recovery (IR) magnetization preparation at 1.5T, the application at 3T has gained due to increased quantification precision. Alternatively, saturation-recovery (SR) T1-mapping has recently been introduced...

Are T1 values to characterize myocardial tissue equivalent between various sequences: comparison of MOLLI, shMOLLI, 3'5-MOLLI and SASHA

Background Classical modified Look-Locker sequence (MOLLI) can induce a long breath-hold and is prone to cardiac and respiratory motion. Several shorter sequences based on inversion (3’5MOLLI, shMOLLI) and saturation recovery (SASHA) of longitudinal relaxation have been proposed for derivation of T1 values or calculation of extracellular volume fraction or lambdas. Despite the validation in T1 ...

Comparison of MOLLI and ShMOLLI at 1.5 and 3 Tesla for detection of early cardiac iron deposition in patients with transfusional siderosis

Background Patients receiving chronic transfusion develop iron overload in the liver, endocrine glands, and heart. Cardiac T2* has become the standard of care for detecting preclinical cardiac iron deposition and has been validated against tissue iron levels. Recent work suggests that T1 mapping can also be used to detect myocardial iron and may be more sensitive to early cardiac iron depositio...
